RPG Maker VX
RPG Maker VX is the fifth installment in the PC RPG Maker series, followed by RPG Maker XP. Like the previous RPG Makers, RPG Maker VX features an enhanced user-friendly graphical interface and a powerful set of features. Using the “database” and “event” system, it allows even beginners to create a fully functional role-playing game with absolutely no programming knowledge.
RPG Maker VX comes with new, interesting features; the ability to instantly create events for chests, doors, inns, and so on, the random dungeon generator, increased 60 frames per second, and much more! RPG Maker VX, like other makers in the series, comes packed with a large, whole set of default audio and graphic resources (Run Time Package, or RTP) all ready for use, allowing beginners to create beautiful maps and scenes.
The scripting feature from RMVX’s predecessor returns in the name of Ruby Game Scripting System 2 (RGSS2), which has been tailored and upgraded specifically for RPG Maker VX. The new features of this system allow you to go beyond the basic functions of the engine by changing any feature want; such as, the battle system, game play menu, and much more. The RGSS2 feature puts RMVX on a more customizable level that has never been reached before by any other maker in the series.
RPG Maker XP
RPG Maker XP (RMXP) is the fourth PC installment in the popular RPG Maker series, and the first to receive an official English release. Like the previous RPG Makers, RMXP provides a user-friendly interface to create a complete role playing game with little to no programming knowledge and a relatively low learning curve for the program itself.
This was the first installment in the RPG Maker series to introduce the concept of scripting. RMXP uses the Ruby scripting language – a complete and growing language with a large library of predefined classes – to define how the game looks and behaves. Experienced users can use and modify the Ruby classes provided, called RGSS, to fully customize their games. Other experienced users, known colloquially as “scripters,” have provided a vast library of RMXP compatible scripts that can be used to do everything from add a little eye candy to completely revamp the battle system.
With the introduction of scripting, nearly anything becomes possible, including tactical RPGs, isometric RPGs, and even online RPGs. The sky is almost literally the limit, if one has the patience to learn Ruby or can find a script to suit their needs already made.
RMXP also doubled the screen resolution of the previous two makers, creating a graphical experience closer to the end of the SNES era or the dawn of the PSX era.
Like the previous RMs, RMXP comes with a large package of graphics, music, and sounds (known as the Run Time Package, or RTP) that can be used to create a complete RPG, including flexible tiled graphics to create beautiful maps and characters to represent NPCs, heroes, and monsters.

RPG Maker 2003
RPG Maker 2003 (also referred to as RM2k3, and sometimes RM2k/3) is largely an improvement of RM2k. RM2k games can be ported to RM2k3 (but not back to RM2k, the conversion is permanent), and most resources are interchangeable. The main difference is the introduction of a side-view battle system similar to that found in Final Fantasy games on the Super Nintendo. This was the first version made by Enterbrain, which had previously been a part of ASCII.

RPG Maker 2000
RPG Maker 2000 (also called RM2k) was the second release of RPG Maker for Microsoft Windows and is the most popular and used RPG Maker so far. While it is possible to do more with RM2k, it uses lower resolution sprites and tiles than RPG Maker 95. However, it does not have a noticeable limit of ‘sprites’. Unlike RM95, which can only use one ‘set’, RM2k can use an unlimited number of sprite sheets with specific sizes for each type. The tilesets also have a similar non-limitation. However, because tiles must be entered into a database, there is a limit on tiles. This limit however is rarely a problem (normally 5000), and even when it is, an unofficial patch exists which can bump most limits much higher at the risk of potential game corruption.

Network RPG Maker 2000
Released on July 7, 2000 developed by DWANGO and ASCII and maintained by ENBAN, the first of the new ASCII DCP division. Sadly due to the falling of ENBAN everything was loss, but HITPOINTS has tried to support the maker with releasing RPG MAGAZINE. While the original translation team except one has left the project , most translation are either edits of there’s or the Italian translation by the guys at rpgmaker. A full translation has been released by the Intrenchant team.

Sim RPG Maker 95
When RPG Maker 95 came out, people started to discover and want more amateur game creation tools, so an attempt was made to bring over Sim RPG Maker. Though the translation was never finished, it was still made available to the creative public.
The engine itself is arguably very limited – creating games in it tends to be fairly straightforward, but also, unfortunately, inflexible. Games created with this engine are focused around strategic battles in which players move their units (battle characters) on a graphical field, seperate the units, and use the units to attack. This is the typical style of the japanese-created “Strategy RPG” genre – akin to classics such as Shining Force, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Fire Emblem, while mixing various elements of each.
Those willing to accept the limitations of the system itself will find that having the maker entirely customized towards this goal will make the process of creating an SRPG much easier than attempting it in any other maker. Those who don’t like the limitations are probably better creating their own system from scratch in a more open-ended maker.

RPG Maker 95
RPG Maker 95, or RM95 for an abbreviation, is the first Windows version of the RPG Maker series developed and published by ASCII, released in Japan March 28th, 1997 as RPG Tsukūru 95 (RPGツクール95 Ārupījī Tsukūru Kyūjūgo?). The game is ASCII’s third RPG making application for the PC. The game is also the first in the series to receive an unauthorized English translation and release.
RPG Maker 95 games run in 640×480 resolution and incorporates a 2D tile engine, that involve separate graphics files for characters, tile sets, backgrounds, and battle animations. The battle style of RPG Maker 95 is turn-based and in first-person perspective. The music featured in RPG Maker consists of midi and wav files. The first 2000 releases in Japan were accompanied with a soundtrack CD album “ZONDERLAND” of RPG themed music based on RPG Maker. Music was composed by the U.K. band INTELLIGENTSIA, who also created the RPG MAKER in game FX.
